How To Make Roses Last Longer

Last updated 2 days 21 hours ago

If you were lucky enough to receive roses from your Valentine or at any other time of year, you’ll want them to keep looking fresh and beautiful for as long as possible. Here are some tips from florists about how to make roses last longer in vases: Our florist in North Shore sells the most amazing roses and use these tips to make them last.

Prepare the vase

It’s possible that your roses arrived in their own vase but if not, it is important to find one tall enough and spacious enough that the roses are not crowded. Fill it to about halfway with water and sprinkle with the sachet of floral preservative provided by the florist if you received one. If not, you can make your own recipe: mix one teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of liquid bleach, two teaspoons of lemon juice and two litres of lukewarm water.

Prepare the roses
Trim the roses of any excessive leaves; that is, leaves that may be submerged. Cut the stems of the roses on a 45-degree angle – this allows for more water absorption.

Find the perfect place
Place the vase and flowers away from direct sunlight. Find the perfect place in your home where you can display the flowers and protect them from the heat of the sun. Think also about any drafts from air conditioners, as both heat and moving air can take moisture from the flowers.

Daily attention to water
Top up the water in the vase daily and on every third or fourth day, change the water completely.

By following these simple steps, you can expect your roses to last for more than a week. If you're looking for a Florist that services the North Shore and other areas like St Ives and Dee Why.  Ring (02) 8999 8550 and speak with Hills The Flower Market today.
